It´s easy. On paint, zoom in to x8. There (hopefully) you should be able to see the shading. Now, let´s say that you want to turn something pink to orange. Start with the darkest/lightest color. (I start with the darkest, but that´s just me) Go to colors > edit colors and put orange, your base color. Then lower the weird arrow thing to a really dark orange. Then, using the bucket tool, color the darkest pink this color. Use the eyedropper on the dark orange. Go to Colors > Edit colors and make a very slightly lighter shde of orange. Use it on the slightly lighter shade of pink. And so on.
